It's a normal day on the gym floor. Music's playing, members are training, and your team is busy coaching, cleaning, and chatting.
Then suddenly, someone collapses.
No warning. No time to prepare. Just a moment that changes everything.
The question is simple: would your staff know exactly what to do?
When It Happens, It’s Immediate
Collapses in gyms and sports clubs aren’t common, but they do happen.
Causes can include:
- Cardiac arrest
- Fainting
- Heat exhaustion
- Underlying health conditions
And when it happens, the first few minutes are critical.
In cardiac arrest, brain injury can begin within 4–6 minutes, and survival drops by around 10% per minute without action.
Your staff are the first responders.
In That Moment, There’s No Time to Think
Your team needs to act - fast and confidently.
They should be able to:
- Check responsiveness and breathing
- Call emergency services immediately
- Start CPR
- Use a defibrillator (AED)
- Keep the situation under control
Simple in theory. Much harder without training.
The Real Risk Is Hesitation
Most people don’t ignore emergencies, they hesitate.
They second-guess. They worry about doing the wrong thing. They freeze.
That delay can be the difference between life and death.
Training Turns Hesitation Into Action
Good first aid training doesn’t just teach knowledge, it builds confidence.
It means your team:
- Responds immediately
- Knows exactly what to do
- Stays calm under pressure
And in some cases, it means saving a life.
Ask Yourself
If someone collapsed in your gym today:
- Who takes control?
- Who starts CPR?
- Who grabs the AED?
If you’re not 100% sure, your team isn’t ready.
Be Prepared
You can’t predict an emergency.
But you can make sure your staff are ready for one.
Because in that moment, training is everything.
