Here at imperative training, we're not just about first aid, we also offer a wide variety of other training courses to suit the needs of multiple industries as well as an individual's own personal development.

Depending on which industry your workplace operates in will determine what courses are suited to you and your employees.

By providing further training for your employees, you can help them perform their jobs more effectively, providing a deeper understanding of the job roles and ultimately, increasing their safety.

In this post, we'll be exploring some of the additional courses we offer and what benefits you and your employees can gain from achieving an additional qualification.

Fancy Yourself a Foodie?

Working in an environment where food is packaged, prepared or served requires the understanding of correct hygiene regulations. Food prepared without the proper safe practices implemented can lead to illnesses such as Salmonella, E. coli and Norovirus.

It is imperative that businesses involved in handling and preparing food understand food safety practices and the risks involved when they prepare food for themselves or for customers.

Food businesses are required by law to ensure that food handlers receive the appropriate instruction in accordance with their working duties, this can be achieved by a senior member of staff who has attended a food safety course.

Our TQUK Level 2 Award in Food Safety is specifically tailored for senior members of staff and covers:

How individuals can take personal responsibility for food safety

  • How individuals can take personal responsibility for food safety
  • Personal hygiene importance
  • Importance of keeping work stations clean and hygienic
  • The importance of ensuring and keeping food safe

We recommend anyone thinking of entering the food industry to take this course to ensure you have the most up to date training possible. It is important to be aware of the potential risks surrounding food preparation, distribution and how to operate safely when working in a food environment.

Fire Safety

Fire safety is vital for every workplace, whether it is an office, gymnasium or building site. Fire courses help learners to direct colleagues and other employees safety should there be a fire emergency.

There is no telling how quickly a fire can start and spread and in the event of an emergency, getting everyone to safety and quickly and calmly is vital to reduce the risk potential casualties. It is essential to have at least one member of staff with the knowledge of fire safety and prevention on site at all times, which is why we recommend having additional members of staff trained so there is always someone trained, should the original appointed fire marshal be off sick or on holiday.

It is the business owners responsibility to ensure that there is always a trained fire marshal on site in case of a fire. Depending upon the size of the business and the number of employees will help determine how many fire marshals should be trained within your organisation.

We offer both Level 1 and Level 2 fire safety courses, both with the option of including extinguishers. These courses will cover:

Fire safety in the workplace

  • Fire safety in the workplace
  • What to do in an emergency
  • Fire risk control principles
  • Principles and practices of fire safety management at work
  • How to use a fire extinguisher (Extinguisher courses)

For safety reasons, lifts are placed out of bounds during a fire evacuation procedure, therefore it is the duty of the employer to install an evacuation chair to assist with any member of staff who may have mobility issues. Our Evacuation Chair Training course will teach you all you need to know regarding this.

Manual Handling

Incorrect manual handling is one of the most common causes of injuries at work and accounts for over a third of workplace accidents.

It is vital that employers ensure that all employees who are at risk of a manual handling injury, understand the correct procedures for pushing, pulling and lifting to prevent avoidable injuries and accidents. All employers have a duty to ensure that they do everything possible to reduce the risks of manual handling injuries and accidents as possible.

With imperative's Level 2, one day course in Safe Moving and Manual Handling, students will learn:

  • Why safe handling is needed at work
  • How manual handling risk assessments contribute to improving workplace health and safety
  • The principles, equipment types and testing requirements associated with manual handling safety
  • Applying safe manual handling principles
