From September 2016 new nursery and pre-school staff will be required to undertake paediatric first aid for the first time, thanks to the new government proposal – ‘Millie’s Mark’.

We all know babies love to put things in their mouths, especially things they shouldn’t! This is normal behaviour and helps them to explore the new world around them.

However, choking is the third most common form of infant death in the UK, with the majority of choking-related incidents being caused by food and small objects such as marbles, buttons, and coins. So, what can we do to prevent it?

On Tuesday the 8^th March, approximately 554,000 school children will find out if they have been offered a place at their preferred secondary school.

Due to a surge in the population, the competition is fierce with the most sought after schools under a great deal of pressure.  After 70% of local authorities saw an increase last year in the number of parents whose child lost out on their top choice; it is likely that many parents will be appealing this year’s result in the hope that their children will become a top achiever at their chosen school.

We urge you to take a look at the bigger picture because the quality of a school shouldn’t be evaluated solely on the performance of the pupils in their GCSEs and A-levels. Other factors must be considered such as the schools performance in the Ofsted report and most importantly whether your child will be safe in their hands.

There’s no doubt about it that the emergency services are life savers. They are super heroes in our eyes, knights in shining armour dashing to our rescue on their noble steeds. In fact, they possibly have the most rewarding job of all as they work tirelessly to help others on a daily basis.

However, they cannot always reach us when we need them most.
