Every day, it’s the same routine for the majority of us. We get out of bed, we go to work, we come home, eat dinner and then go to bed in readiness to do it all over again, five days a week.

For many people, they spend more time at work than they do at home; for full-time workers, in excess of 30 hours a week is spent at work. That’s more than 100 hours a month!

Working in a positive and pleasant environment will make yours and your co-workers time at work more enjoyable and more productive. With this in mind, let’s take a look at a few of our favourite tips for a healthy and happy workplace.

Show Your Employees you Care

Employees are the cogs that fit together to make your company run like clockwork. One cannot work without another and without them, your business wouldn't progress!

If employees feel looked after and valued, they're more likely to be productive in their job roles because of their attitude towards the work they're doing for their seniors.

Simply asking how someone is or what's going on in their lives creates the feeling of appreciation and happiness - this doesn't necessarily mean congregating in the kitchen or staff room for a half an hour chat, it's simply remembering to show an interest which will lead to the employees showing an interest too; not only in you life but in their work too.

Social Calendar

It's important to mix it up every once in a while. Having a fun day in the office planned, some fundraising and or a planned day out to the cinema or amusement park gives everyone something to look forward to.

Creating a social environment for employees will make the workplace feel more collective and helps build a strong team. It provides the opportunity for the different departments to mix that don't cross paths in their day to day work.

Here, at imperative, we always make sure we have something penned in on our social calendar. Whether it be a pizza party, some fundraising for our chosen charities, a trip out or a 'friendly' game of netball, there's always something to look forward to!

Be Prepared

Creating a safe space for your employees by preparing for any type of emergency will ensure they feel protected at work.

It may sound difficult, but it's really not! Having a First Aid kit on site is a legal requirement, but if it isn't stocked up, you can't assist an employee is hurt! Maybe appoint one team member to keep a check on the First Aid kit level of stock, that way you'll always be able to help in the event of an emergency.

Cardiac arrest does not discriminate who it attacks. Whether you're a regular marathon participant or love your couch too much to move once you get home, you're at risk of a sudden cardiac arrest.

If an employee were to suffer a cardiac arrest in work, then you're going to need a defibrillator to help them, along with some effective CPR. The latter can be achieved by partaking in a Nationally Accredited First Aid Course which will help provide staff members with the life-saving skills and also touch on the use of a defibrillator.

This type of scenario can be stressful, but knowing what to do will fill your employees with confidence as they'll be able to help the casualty but will also ensure that your employees are thankful to you for providing the training course, again creating a huge sense of appreciation in the workplace.
