This course is designed for individuals who work with young children and was developed to meet the course programme as laid down by:
- Early Years Foundation Stage Statutory Framework
- NCMA (National Child Minders Association)
- Pre-School Learning Alliance
- OFSTED (for the purpose of registering as an early years professional)
- Surestart
- NVQ in childcare and education
All childminders in England and Wales are required to have a valid early years first aid qualification preferably upon registration if not within six months of receiving their registration certificate.
This course may also be used to provide evidence to an NVQ assessor for those working towards an NVQ in Child Care and Education (level 3).
what topics are covered in the training?
This 12 hour course normally runs over 2 days and includes training in:
- Role of a first aider, accident reporting and the first aid box
- Action planning in an emergency
- Primary & secondary assessments
- Recovery position
- Infant, child and adult resucitation (CPR )
- Infant, child and adult action for choking
- Head injuries
- Treatment for bleeding, shock and burns
- Treatment for sprains, strains and fractures
- Poisoning, bites and stings
- Eye, nose and ear obstructions
- Childhood conditions
- Asthma, diabetes and seizures
- Allergic reactions and anaphylactic shock
